Hey all, it’s now day 37 as life as MMU’s first Sport Officer.

That sounds like I’ve either been lost at sea or applied to be on Love Island, (as great as both would be) safe to say I am fully settling into life as an officer at The Union. It’s been a very insightful, exciting and thought provoking few weeks. There are lots of things going on - things I didn’t imagine would even be part of the process this year are currently keeping me busy. It’s all very exciting and it’s all very new. As someone who has been involved in The Union and Sport at MMU for over 7 years (before anyone asks, I've done an undergraduate and master’s degree! I’m not repeating first year for the seventh time, as much as I wish I could!) and as many will probably know, I have developed into a cross between William Wallace and a passionate Chihuahua, I can honestly say things are looking good for the 18/19 academic year. I am extremely confident this will be a fantastic year for student sport at both The Union and MMU. We are all working hard to formulate a refreshing, professional and more student friendly set up (stay tuned for my future blog on all this!).

A typical day as an officer - let’s change that, there’s no such thing as a typical day for an officer! Every day is madly different! It’s something I already love about it, you just don’t know what to expect so coming in every day is an exciting prospect, and you guys, our fantastic students, aren’t even here yet!

I’d love to tell you about all I’ve been doing for the past month but at the moment it really is all top secret! One thing I can announce is that I have created a Sport Surgery, every Monday between 12pm and 2pm where clubs and individuals can pop in to a specific meeting room (opposite the Advice Centre) and update me on anything they think needs changing, have a chat in confidence about anything personal or just fill me in on any successes from the previous week. It’s all very positive and hopefully when returning in September we will be ready to give you the best year you’ve had at MMU.

For now I’ll leave the rest to good old Bob...

‘’Keep your eyes wide, the chance won’t come again. And don’t speak to soon, for the wheels still in spin. And there’s no telling who that its namin’, for the loser now will be later to win. For the times they are a changin'’’
