'Give it don't bin it' is an end of term donation and recycling campaign that provides an easy route for you to donate your unwanted items before moving out of your accommodation for the summer holidays.

You can help raise awareness of the campaign amongst your fellow students by getting involved in any of the University's ‘let’s get posting’ volunteer days.

You will be encouraging others to donate their unwanted items to our charity partners the British Heart Foundation and the Manchester Central Food bank, as well as to recycle and dispose of their rubbish correctly, and have a massive and very positive impact on community relations between students and long-term residents living in south Manchester.

On the day: You will help distribute the ‘Give it don’t bin it’ leaving packs to student houses across a number of areas in Manchester. To ensure everyone gets them, the packs will be hand delivered to each house by knocking on each door, telling the students living there about the campaign, how donating their unwanted goods can really help and by handing them a pack.

When and where:

- Tuesday 8 May: meet Mark Miles (Manchester Met Waste and Recycling Assistant) in the reception area of Hulme Hall in Victoria Park Campus at 10:30am prompt.

- Friday 11 May: meet Mark Miles (Manchester Met Waste and Recycling Assistant) outside Source Cafe in Owens Park at 10:30am prompt.

- Saturday 12 May: meet Mark Miles (Manchester Met Waste and Recycling Assistant) in the foyer of Withington Library at 10:00am prompt.

If you're free for the full session, that'll be great. Yet if you can only spare a few hours, that'll also be great.

How to prepare:

If you want to get involved, please bring a bag suitable for carrying the packs (such as a rucksack). You will also need to wear sturdy footwear, warm clothing and waterproofs as it may be cold and may rain (this is Manchester after all).

If it is sunny, please ensure you protect your skin with sun cream as you will be outside for this volunteering!

Want to get involved?

Contact environment@mmu.ac.uk and let us know which day you would like to volunteer. We’ll be back in touch to confirm and provide further details.
