On 1 December each year, an opportunity arises for everyone to unite in the fight against HIV and to commemorate those who have lost their lives to an AIDS-related illness. There’s loads of support, advice and opportunities available in Manchester as part of World AIDS Day and all year round, find out more below.

LGBT Foundation

As part of HIV Testing Week and World AIDS Day, the LGBT Foundation are running free clinics running every day right up until until World AIDS Day on Sunday 1 December. In addition to their regular Monday, Friday, and Saturday clinics at LGBT Foundation, they'll be offering rapid HIV tests at venues across Greater Manchester. Take a look at their website for more information and to book a slot.

Terrance Higgins Trust

Their mission is to stop HIV in the UK by 2030 — and you could help. By creating a fundraising opportunity (this could be anything from a bake sale to a society event) you could help to raise the vital funds needed to make their mission a reality. Get your hands on a fundraising pack and get started today.

George House Trust

By organising exhibitions of the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt, George House Trust are honouring and remembering those who lost their lives to HIV, by telling their stories on individual Quilt panels. These panels are exhibited in 14 different venues across Manchester until Sunday 1 December, find out if there’s one near you.

Commenting on World AIDS Day, Wellbeing Officer, Andy, says “Greater Manchester has one of the highest averages of people living with HIV and I welcome the Mayor’s commitment to end all transmissions of HIV within a generation. I would ask all students to learn more about the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS and the history of it in the UK and beyond.”
