Catering Volunteer

Details Hide[-]

Back on Track is a Manchester charity that enables disadvantaged adults to make lasting, positive changes in their lives. Formed in 1977, today we run a learning centre in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. We work with adults who are going through a process of recovery or rehabilitation, having been through problems with: Homelessness; Mental Health; Substance Misuse; or Offending. Our projects enable people to build the skills they need to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives.

In January 2015 we opened our Social Enterprise Catering Service, Swan Kitchens. Since then the project has gone from strength to strength! Swan Kitchens offers real work experience opportunities and a chance to explore a career in catering. It also enables us to provide cheap and nutritious food and drink for the people who use our centre.

Two years on and the service now includes: an on-site café; outside catering service; market stalls; and our very own produce!

You may have guessed that in order to make all this wonderful activity come alive, we need the support and help of volunteers! Please note, we don’t just need food handlers! There are a wide range of opportunities, including:

• Supervisor – Supporting the catering service placement students and volunteers with practical activities in the kitchen.
• Chefs – Devising menus and prepare the main meals for our on-site cafe
• Food Prep Assistants – Supporting chefs with preparing meals
• Bakers – Supporting service users to make cakes for our café and market stalls.
• Front of House – Greeting customers and serving food and drinks.
• Logistics Support – Driving and delivering catering orders to locations across Manchester.
• Administration – Updating existing systems for data collection and providing admin support for outside catering.

We also have a number of other roles available at Back on Track, if you would like more information on our volunteering roles please visit: http://www.backontrackmanchester.org.uk/volunteer/
