I’m Evelyn, your President elect for this academic year. I’m from Lancashire and I came to Manchester in 2015 to do Photography, later switching to English.

During my time at Manchester Met I was involved in a variety of societies: I was on the committee for the Rock Society, and a member of Gamers, Nerds, LGBT+ and Feminist societies – later going onto becoming Chair of the Societies Council.

Societies were an important part of my university experience – they’re how I made friends and met people who were into the same things as me. Because of that, I decided to run for the Societies and Development Officer 19/20. Being elected into that position was so exciting and I enjoyed being an officer so much that I wanted to run again for President.

My focus for this year is to work with the rest of the Officer Team to do our best to support students through everything that’s happening right now. I want to make sure that Manchester remains as safe as possible for all students and ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed.

I live in Northern Quarter with my best friend and my pet snake, Levi. In my free time, you can find me listening to too much Taylor Swift and playing video games. I’m also currently trying (and failing) to learn ukulele. If you’ve got any questions, please feel free to contact me about anything.

The President is The Union’s lead officer who has a chief role in representing students at Manchester Met and they line-manage the other Officers. They have a huge say on the direction we take on key issues and campaigns aimed at improving the overall student experience. The President champions the work of The Union, leads our public image and is a governor at the University to influence key decisions for students.
