Manchester Metropolitan University Students' Union

ANNA WELSH President

ABOUT ANNA

Hi everyone, I’m Anna and I’m your Students Union President for this year! Last year I was your first ever Societies & Development Officer and I loved working with all the students into societies so much I decided to run to be your president so I could work with even more of you. I graduated in 2018 from a Mathematics degree and whilst I was a student I was heavily involved with societies. Last year during my role I got into Cheerleading and competed alongside the Level 1 team, it was an amazing experience and I hope to continue with them this year. If there’s ever anything you need please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me!

MORE ABOUT MY ROLE

The President is The Union’s lead officer who has a chief role in representing students at Manchester Met and they line-manage the other Officers. They have a huge say on the direction we take on key issues and campaigns aimed at improving the overall student experience. The President champions the work of The Union, leads our public image and is a governor at the University to influence key decisions for students.

SEPTEMBER UPDATE

You might have to come back to me for this one- not sure an update on the 2 weeks I’ve been pres will be very good :’)

MY GOALS

REACHING OUT TO STUDENTS - not yet started

This is something I’m going to work on during term one. Making sure I’m out on the campus and talking to as many students as possible. I’ll bring a hot topic question with me so if you have anything you’d like me to ask and find the answer to- let me know!

UNION BAR DOOR - in progress

A few of you have complained about the door to the union door no longer being disabled accessible, that feedback has come to us and we are going to rectify this! I’m currently working with the University and Union staff to get this sorted.

LAUNCHING REPORT AND SUPPORT - in progress

Last year I was part of the working group for a system called report & support, this is a system for students to use to report on sexual harassment, violence and hate crime on campus. I’m looking forward to seeing the system be launched and how it can better help all MMU students.

GETTING SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS WITH AUTISM - in progress

At the NUS National Conference this year MMU got policy passed to put the wheels in motion to help get more support for students with autism. This year I want to work with the university to see the policy implemented.

A MORE INCLUSIVE UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE  - not yet started

Continuing with my theme of helping all students at MMU, I really want to get down to the core of what makes a truly inclusive university experience, sharing as many of your stories as possible and finding ways of tailoring the student experience to suit everyone.
