ABOUT ANDY

My name is Andy Young and I am your Vice President this year! I graduated MMU in 2017 with a 2:1 degree in Primary School Teaching (with QTS). I studied at the universities Cheshire campus, where I am mainly based in my job now and support the last cohort of Cheshire students on a wide variety of issues as well as deputising for the SU President. I was part of the Rugby league team down in Cheshire for 3 years being Chairman, Captain and Social Sec, As well as competing for the Cheerleading team for 2 years. I love working with students on any ideas they have and making this ideas become real. I am always here, ready for a conversation or to advise you in any way you need! Just pop in and see me.

MORE ABOUT MY ROLE

The Vice President coordinates our work in enhancing the student experience at MMU Cheshire and leads on issues affecting them.

They also deputise for the President when required and have some line-management responsibilities.

MY GOALS

SPORTS TEAMS PROVISIONS IN CHESHIRE - completed

The teams in Cheshire have been amazing and we have done load to support them in all they have needed. No team in Cheshire has given a walkover, or finished in the bottom half of any BUCS table.

CHESHIRE VARSITY - completed

Students asked for a varsity against Manchester Campus and we provided it with the help from Manchester Met sport. The event was a huge success with Cheshire teams winning 5 out of the 6 games on the day.

FINAL OLD BOYS EVENT - completed

This event was a huge success with over 1000 people attending the event over 2 nights it was a superb way to end the final ever ‘old boys’.

SPORTS SCIENCE STUDENTS NEEDING PARTICIPANTS  - completed

As part of my manifesto, I promised that I would help any students that needed participants in their projects. I have kept this promise and been a part of 5 students studies ranging from finding out my BMI to the best mouth guard protection in different environments.

AVOID CLASHES WITH ACADEMIC ACTIVITY AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY  - in progress

This is still ongoing however; we have a much better relationship with the university. From this, we have been able to avoid all but one clash between student lead and academic activity.

CHESHIRE AWARDS - in progress

Invites have been sent, the deadline has passed for the RSVP’s. We are now waiting to receive all the nominations for colours and awards. Planning is nearly complete and orders for equipment is going out within the next few weeks.

PROJECT CHESHIRE - in progress

This is still ongoing with students still bidding into this. Over £8000 pounds has been used so far to help fund some amazing events. We are very proud that we have managed to keep this going.

ATTEND STUDENT PERFORMANCES - in progress

I have attended as many student academic performances as possible throughout this year. Watching some drama and CTP pieces was fascinating and rewarding. I am still working on trying to get to some of the Dance performances and support all of our performing arts students.

HOT DESKING IN DIFFERENT LOCATION IN CHESHIRE - stopped

This was trailed in the first term but seemed to cause more confusion with students wondering where I was based instead of finding me in the office. Due to this, I decided to not carry this on into the second and third terms.
