Champagne lifestyle, student budget - Amy Walmsley

When I was a fresher, I had a ‘legally blonde’ view of University.

I genuinely considered completely revamping my room at my halls, but apparently, that is not realistic.

I totally underestimated how expensive venues in Manchester could be, but didn’t want to give up being able to enjoy going out, so I decided to budget my way around it.

So here’s my five favourite student budget friendly finds:

V-Revs Vegan Diner — located in Mancheser’s Northern Quarter, furnished with chequer board flooring and general retro diner vibes, V-Revs offers ‘junk food’ burgers, fries and hot dogs – that don’t have meat in them.

San Carlo Fumo — visit between 16:00 and 19:00 on Sunday to Thursday and you get two for one on all drinks. That’s not even the best part — with any drinks purchased during this time they give you free pizza!

Menagerie — this place is recognised for its stunning interior and ‘instagrammable’ bath, however dining comes at a cost, with many of their food options starting at around £15 - £20. They now offer an express lunch menu during the week— a more reasonable £9.95 will buy you lunch with drink included.

Black Milk Cereal (Northern Quarter) — Black Milk offer amazing waffles, cereal sundaes and freak shakes (including dairy free and vegan options). Although Black Milk is not known for being the cheapest around Manchester, you can often find deals such as vouchers on the Manchester Confidential App.

The Courtyard — this venue is iconic for Manchester Met students. They have a good range of different food and drinks options including burgers, wraps and nachos – I always go for their three for £10 side offer where they have halloumi fries, mozzarella sticks and popcorn chicken!
