Don't let stress win! Stress Awareness Month 2024

Thursday 11-04-2024 - 15:33

April brings the start of a new season as the weather gets slightly less miserable and we start to see flowers blooming again, but it can also be a very stressful time with important exams and assignments right around the corner.

In fact, April marks Stress Awareness Month, and has done for the past 30+ years. Stress can be brought on by all aspects of life; whether it be related to your studies, career, personal life or mental wellbeing, stress can really take a toll and be hard to manage.

We want to do everything we can to help raise awareness and help you in any way we can. Sometimes all you need is a small win to help you handle your stress, so we’ve put together some tips, activities, resources and events that are beneficial, fun and easy to achieve!

🚶‍♀️ Get active

Now don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you become a marathon runner or anything like that. But, never underestimate the power of going on a walk and getting some fresh air. It's not only good for your body and health, but can help clear your mind during particularly stressful times.

It doesn’t have to be long, after all this is supposed to be helping reduce stress so no need to set goals or put pressure on yourself. Just go at your own pace, listen to some music, clear your mind and re-group your thoughts.

If you’re looking to connect a bit more with nature, there’s some beautiful walking trails not far from Manchester city.

🫶 Do something you love

If you’re feeling particularly stressed or overwhelmed, put aside some time to do something you love. Whether that’s seeing your mates, reading a book, playing a game, baking or even just scrolling on TikTok - make sure you don’t get lost in your stress and forget about the things that make you happy!

Having something to look forward to can help you feel more focused and motivated, and helps you to remember the positive aspects of life which can easily be forgotten during tough times.

🧘‍♀️ Yoga

Yoga is a great, peaceful and mindful-practice that can help you unwind and relax. It’s great for both the mind and soul, so what’s stopping you giving it a go?

We even host Puppy Yoga right here at The Union, keep an eye on our website for future events so you can grab a ticket before it sells out!
