Uni halls rent update

Rentupdate

On Wednesday 6 January 2021, the University agreed that if you're unable to return to your University owned accommodation due to the government enforced lockdown, the University will be giving you a rent rebate for the time you won't be living in your halls (that means until at least mid-February). It’s great to see Manchester Met taking this step—not many are—and the spring term FAQs page has all of the details.⁣⁣
 ⁣⁣
This is great news for some students but we know it doesn’t cover everyone. The University has also agreed to increase the hardship fund for students who are struggling financially and we'd really encourage you to access the extra support if you need it. Our Advice centre is also here for you and available via email (s.u.advice@mmu.ac.uk) and phone (0161 247 6533). ⁣⁣
 ⁣⁣
We'll be writing to private landlords to encourage them to take the same steps as the University, and we'll keep you updated on any progress that’s made.  ⁣⁣
 ⁣⁣
It's because of your feedback that we're able to work with the University on these issues, which are affecting students across the UK. ⁣⁣
 ⁣⁣
Now we need the government to do their part and provide support for all students. We'll be looking into ways we can join other universities and reach out for the help you need.

If you'd like to share your thoughts or have feedback that you'd like us to raise with the University, let us know and we'll keep these important conversations going.
