This session will showcase the novel approach UoNSU has taken to sexual health and sexual wellness awareness. Sexual health and wellness is relevant to the majority of students, yet a lot of unions and universities approach it with the angle of only looking at STI's and condoms. Universities particularly can be restrictive and prescriptive in what they are willing to say to students.
At UoNSU, we share what students want to hear, and what universities are too hesitant to discuss. This ranges from advice and resources related to consent, masturbation, sex work, BDSM, sex toys and more. From our first (in a while) SHAG Week in 2022, we have developed our work around sexual health & wellness to now include a successful annual campaign, a Good SHAG Guide and more. In all aspects of our work, consent and personal safety is of equal importance as the primary topic.
This session will share guidance on how other SUs can adopt a similar approach to sexual health and advice in their community in a way that is supportive and empowering for students.
