A common, perhaps simplistic, frame for students’ unions - we do what students want - is challenged by significant, almost universal, cuts. The ‘democratic’ ‘representative’ system creates work for student volunteers, student leaders, SU professionals, and institutional staff.
But it isn’t designed - or at least isn’t promoted - on the basis it’ll help us decide what not to do, what to stop, what to cut, or what to close. Is growth and creativity for student democracy, but cuts and shrinking for managers and trustees?
This session tries to reconcile student leadership and a smaller, harder, future for our organisations.
Staff working in clubs and societies, advice, student reps, democracy, governance, campaigning – anything within membership services across the UK.
