Fix It Forum: crowd sourcing solutions for Welfare, Liberation and other challenges.

What you need to know:

- Location: SODA, Village Green

- Date: Wednesday 13 August 2025

- Time: 14:30 - 15:20

- Presenter(s): Ruth Truscott, Queen Mary UL Students' Union

Please note, all sessions across both days are subject to change. Any changes will be updated across the website and in any other digital comms in advance.

From the presenter:

Across the sector, unions face the same welfare backlogs and liberation challenges—yet we often struggle alone or forget to reach out for help. This session turns shared pain points into shared progress.

How the session will work:

- We’ll start with a quick poll of delegates’ biggest challenges

- The room then votes, selecting six priority issues—housing scams, inaccessible timetables, trans-student safety, or something totally new. Mixed-union tables tackle one topic each, using a structured problem-solving prompts to swap what worked, what failed and why

Why is this different to a networking session:

- Structured prompts make talking to people from other unions easier for neurodivergent colleagues or anyone who dreads open-ended mingling

- A liberation lens is built in: every solution must advance equity as well as efficiency

- You will (hopefully) leave with at least one idea, template or contact to trial next academic year.
