Maximising Impact with Minimal Resources: Planning Successful Small SU Events

What you need to know:

- Location: SODA, Cinema

- Time: 15:45 - 16:35

- Presenter(s): Eve Woodall, Ryan Coleflax, Hallam Students' Union and Phillip Smith, Rutgers University

From the presenter:

This session explores how a small Students’ Union can deliver high-impact events with limited staff, time, and funding, while managing the growing pressure to build on previous year’s successes.

Led by ENSA (Edinburgh Napier Students’ Association), the session will share practical approaches to planning smarter, not harder. From DIY decorations to using student volunteers, we’ll highlight ways to run various events without breaking the bank.

We’ll reflect on what happens when expectations rise but resources don’t—like when our university’s £75K Welcome Fest couldn’t be repeated, so we created our own version for just £650.

Whether you're a team of one or five, you’ll leave with real examples, creative ideas, and permission to prioritise impact over perfection. We’ll also create space for discussion: how do we define success when costs are rising and capacity is stretched?

This session is for anyone who wants to run meaningful events in a sustainable, student-focused way—no glitter cannons required!
