From the presenter:
In our work practices we often strive to find and execute innovative methods to engage students with our Unions. Whether this be for societies, sports, democracy, or even just getting them in the building, we’re always trying to think of what students actually want and need from us.
In this session, we will ask participants to undertake a creative task in order to discover what student engagement looks and feels like for your Union.
In groups, participants will be asked to create a drawing of a university campus. However, this isn’t a typical campus, this is ‘The Campus of Student Engagement’. This drawing will be a visual representation of the Student Engagement at their institution. We will ask groups to think about the Student Engagement journey and how this could be reflected visually in a map.
As they undertake the task, we will prompt groups to think about specific challenges such as: how and why do different students engage with Universities and Unions?; what happens to student engagement during key periods (welcome, elections, exams)?; how do students conventionally (or unconventionally) engage?
We will reflect on how this methodology could be introduced in delegates’ own Unions to integrate with existing work.

Staff working in clubs and societies, advice, student reps, democracy, governance, campaigning – anything within membership services across the UK.

- Breakdown of machinery or equipment
- Failure of supply of electricity or other utilities, leakage of water, fire, flood & explosion
- Strike or labour dispute, external road or building works, Government controls, restrictions or prohibitions or any other Government act or omission whether local or national
- Act of terrorism or any circumstances outside the control of The Union, MMU which may cause the event to be interrupted or cancelled
- CCTV is active for security purposes during the event and visitors may also be filmed or recorded for promotional content
- We may use your email address to specifically contact you about any changes to the event (e.g. rescheduling or cancellation). 11. All events are restricted to age 18+ unless specifically noted on the event page. All guests are required to provide proof of age if asked by the security staff. You can be refused entry if you don’t provide an ID. Acceptable forms of ID: a photo driving licence, passport, or proof of age card (such as the PASS card from the national Proof of Age Standards Scheme).
