Choir and Orchestra Society (CAOS)
Manchester Universities’ Choir and Orchestra Society (CAOS) is a non-audition society that provides musicians with a space to come together and perform music to an excellent standard. We pride ourselves on doing our best to provide an opportunity and welcome members to join at any point during the year, even if you've never sang before or it's just been a while since you played your instrument! We’re a society with decades of history and traditions, while providing students with a memorable and fun experience and to part of an official society registered at The Manchester Metropolitan University Students’ Union and The University of Manchester Students’ Union, with memberships available to anyone over 18.
We perform two concerts a year, one in December and one in May, and we also run regular socials throughout the year from going for drinks after rehearsals to day trips and our annual residential. If you want to join, just turn up to one of our rehearsals! Our rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings during term time: 6pm-8pm for Choir, 8pm-10.15pm for Orchestra – for more information on the rehearsal venue, head over to our Instagram or new web page! Frequently asked questions
Some societies are free to join, whilst others may have a small fee of around £5 to £10 for the whole year.
Your joining fees are then used to cover the running of the society (sometimes there’ll be extra costs if the society offers classes, special events or trips).

Current Manchester Met students are welcome to join our societies all year round.
Freshers Fair is a particularly great opportunity for you to meet and join our societies in person.
For existing societies, committee members are chosen by members of the society through an online election. Elections take place in March ready for the upcoming academic year, and the role of committee member runs from July to June.
For new societies, the founding members choose their committee to get started.
Fill out this booking form, giving at least one week’s notice to ensure the room is secured. You can request any bookable space in The Union or the University, but first make sure to check the building’s opening hours.
You should definitely wait for confirmation of your booking before spreading the word to your society members.
