Persian Society

The term "Persian" encompasses a rich tapestry of culture, language, and heritage, connecting people not only within the borders of modern-day Iran but also reaching out to diverse communities with Persian linguistic roots. Embracing a vast historical legacy, Persian heritage extends beyond geographical boundaries, resonating with communities including the Kurds, Lors, Turks, Baluch, Arabs and also Afghans, Tajiks and other ethnic groups. The Persian identity is a testament to a shared linguistic and cultural heritage, fostering a global community united by the beauty of the Persian language and the richness of its traditions. Whether hailing from Iran or other regions with a Persian linguistic background, individuals proudly contribute to and celebrate the enduring legacy of Persian culture.

The Persian Society at Manchester Metropolitan University's Student Union is dedicated to constructing a vibrant and inclusive community for students representing the diverse tapestry mentioned above.

We aim to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Foster a sense of belonging and community among Persian language students by organising social events, networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and recreational activities such as game nights, movie nights, or sports events.
  2. Promote awareness and understanding of Persian culture, history, and traditions among the university community through cultural events, workshops, and exhibitions.
  3. Organise traditional Persian ceremonies and celebrations, such as Nowruz (Persian New Year), to share cultural traditions and create a sense of cultural continuity.
  4. Plan and host various cultural and joyful events, including music and dance performances, food festivals, and art exhibitions, to celebrate the richness of Persian culture and create a joyful atmosphere.
  5. Provide academic support to Persian language students, including study groups, tutoring, and resources to improve their academic performance.
  6. Enhance the Persian language skills of members through language courses, conversation partners, and language practice sessions.
