What is a Student Officer?

The Students' Union are a registered charity and the Student Officers are elected to work full time representing students in the local community and at all levels of decision-making within the University. The Officers lead The Union's political direction, run campaigns on your behalf and hold the university to account on decisions which affect students. Four of the Officers are also Trustees of the organisation meaning that they work with external experts to ensure the health of The Union's finances, governance and strategy. Any student can stand for election to be a Student Officer and every single student has the opportunity to vote for who they believe will best represent them.

Our Priorities

Every year we choose three priority campaigns to run based on feedback from students and things we’ve included in our election manifestos. We will be choosing our priority campaigns for this year very soon.

Meetings we sit on

As full time representatives of students studying at Manchester Metropolitan we sit on meetings at every level of decision making across the university to raise concerns about anything that impacts on your student experience. We also represent students at meetings within the local community with the police, local residents and local council. We are all members of The Union's Senior Management Team and some of us are Trustees meaning we help to decide the strategic direction of The Union.

  • Board of Governors The Board of Governors is the highest decision-making body in the University, which oversees the institution's governance, financial and strategic health. The Union's President and Vice President Cheshire are members of the Board of Governors, which meets six times each academic year.
  • Trustee Board The Trustee Board is responsible for the governance and financial and strategic health of the organisation. Four of our elected Student Officers are also Student Trustees of the organisation.
