The exam period can be a stressful time, so it’s really important to remember to look after yourself. Try these simple ways to boost wellbeing and decrease stress, and remember the University's Counselling Service is there to help if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

1. Get lots of sleep. It’s tempting to pull all-nighters when you’ve got lots of revision to cram in, but it’s much harder to concentrate and retain information when you’re tired.

2. Exercise your body as well as your mind. Exercise is great for increasing mental and physical wellbeing. Even going for a short walk can help to clear your mind and increase your concentration. MMU Sport offer a wide range of activities you can get involved in, including free active campus sessions in The Union and around the University.

3. Try not to work in bed. Keep it for relaxing and sleeping and use a desk instead.

4. Switch off your digital screens. Put your phone, tablet and laptop away one hour before you go to bed and do something to unwind: have a bath, listen to music or chat to friends.

5. Go easy on the caffeinated drinks. Coffee and energy drinks might increase concentration and make you feel more awake but the effects quickly wear off. Too much caffeine can be harmful to your health so try to stick to water instead.

6. Get your five a day. It’s easy to get into a habit of takeaways and coffee after coffee during exam times, but try to avoid it. Eating healthily helps to maintain concentration levels. Check out MetMUnch for some great nutrition tips and delicious recipe ideas.

7. Eat regular meals and snacks. Keep a stash of healthy snacks such as nuts, apples or carrot sticks to refuel your brain as well as your body.
