Walking our way through the pandemic

Wednesday 09-12-2020 - 16:14

With all these lockdowns and changing restrictions, there's one thing that we can always do; go for a walk. So, here’s a few routes within and just outside of Manchester city centre to get you started. Grab one friend (or go it alone), get your shoes on and let’s walk.

Regatta walking routes:

Regatta has compiled three short routes around the city centre, which can be done individually if you fancy a quick walk, or join them all together to make a decent 5k route.

50 Windows Art Trail:

Walking aimlessly can sometimes be a bit boring, although it’s a great way to clear your head. For a different style of stroll, explore the 50 pieces of artwork being displayed across our city’s windows and spaces. It’s completely free, every artist involved has a connection to Manchester and lots of the pieces are (obviously) inspired by lockdown. See the whole trail here.

Longford Park, Chorlton:

Not just any old park. This one has got a pets corner which includes two friendly goats (Frodo and Gandalf) a load of chickens with funky hairstyles and even funkier names (Dolores, Angie and Barbara are our faves), along with other wholesome animals.

Fallowfield Loop:

This former railway line is a good 8 mile route if you want to go for a longer walk, or if you’ve got a bike, it’s a great place to get out for a spin.

River Mersey:

You wouldn’t think you were in Manchester on this walk. Start at East Didsbury or Chorlton Green and stroll along the banks of the river until your heart’s content. Use this map to help you find your way.
