From 1 August, universities and colleges in England have been subject to the Office for Students’ new regulatory requirements to prevent and address harassment and sexual misconduct affecting higher education students. These requirements include universities and colleges:
- Publishing clearly and prominently policies and processes to prevent and respond to incidents of harassment and sexual misconduct
- Having support systems for those affected by harassment and sexual misconduct
- Delivering training to students and staff
- Protecting students from abuses of power in intimate personal relationships between students and relevant staff members
- Not using non-disclosure agreements where they cover allegations of harassment or sexual misconduct
In designing and evaluating their activity in this area, we expect universities and colleges to engage with their student population.
This session is suitable for experienced colleagues and those new to role and will:
- Provide an overview of the OfS's requirements (known as regulatory condition E6) and what students can expect
- Explain the roles of the OIA and OfS in this area
- Explain how concerns about university and colleges' compliance with our requirements can be shared with the OfS
- Provide an update on the pilot sexual misconduct survey
Staff working in clubs and societies, advice, student reps, democracy, governance, campaigning – anything within membership services across the UK.
