Sustainability

Here at the Union, we are committed to making a positive impact on both people and the planet by acting in an environmentally and socially responsible way across everything we do. From reducing energy use and minimising waste to supporting fair trade, local businesses, and sustainable travel, we aim to make thoughtful choices that benefit our community and environment.

We work closely with partners, empower student voices, and inspire sustainable habits in student life, all while continually improving our practices to ensure we’re doing the best we can for a more sustainable future.

Responsible Futures Joint Statement of Intent

Manchester Metropolitan University and the Union have a longstanding and ongoing commitment to working in equal and active partnership to maintain and progress our SOSUK Responsible Futures Accreditation.

Responsible Futures is a whole-institution approach to embed sustainability across all aspects of student learning. It is a supported change programme and externally assessed accreditation mark designed to facilitate an enabling environment for students and staff to put sustainability at the heart of education.

Our joint aim is to embed Education for Sustainable Development and climate change education into formal and informal learning to equip all students with the knowledge and skills required to help shape a more sustainable future.
