Did you know there are over 60 student-led societies at MMU?

Did you know that any current MMU student can join any society?

Did you know that societies aren’t just available at Freshers; you can join them throughout the academic year?

All these facts mean that there will definitely be something for you to get involved with this year whenever you’re ready. A society is a group that students have created and run, all with a common interest. They have regular meetups (that you can attend every time or whenever you fancy it), offer opportunities/activities and often have a digital community through social media.

We have Academic societies which are linked to a specific course. Campaigning and Liberation groups committed to driving change. Faith societies are for students to come together through a shared religion or faith. Hobbies and Interests are based on hobbies or mutual interests.

There’s Music, Media and Performance based on expression, creativity and the arts. Nationality and culture are groups that come together through shared cultural histories or nationalities. Political Perspectives are societies connected to political parties or perspectives.

So what are you waiting for?

Visit our website and find a full list of all our societies. You can join them from individual group pages or come into Your Opportunities office if you want to use your Metcard. The information for each society is on their page, but a lot of societies post their events and activities on their social media platforms, so be sure to check them out.

Not found a society for you? Don’t worry, did you know you can start your own?

We’ve actually got a list of societies that were active last year but are currently looking for students to run them this year. You can find more information on our society adoption page.

You can also start a brand new one through our start a society page – we are always excited to hear your new ideas and will support you in creating your new group. To start a society, you only need a couple of MMU Students and a passion for what you want to create; it’s that simple.
