VOTE ISMAEL ALI FOR NUS DELEGATE 2017/18

“DON’T JUST HOPE FOR A BETTER STUDENT LIFE. VOTE FOR ONE”

ABOUT MYSELF

Hi, my name is Ismael Ali and I’m running to be your NUS delegate for this year.

I am a final year student studying Healthcare Science (Life Sciences), and the current President of the Madinah Society here at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Being someone who has a keen dedication in charity work, I believe my passion and willingness of helping other people and putting their needs and requirements first are exactly the characteristics that the students of this university need in someone to represent their needs and concerns at a national level.

IF ELECTED, I WILL WORK TOWARDS:

  1. FREE EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS

Higher Education should be a right, not a debt sentence. Several universities in countries around the world such as Germany, Norway and Finland, provide free education, and yet for years’, students here at UK have struggled with tuition fees.

With the tuition fee rise in 2012, the student debts have become more crippling for a majority of students. We must raise our voice at a national level to stop any potential increases in tuition fees and work towards providing a free higher education for all.

  1. BETTER HEALTH AND WELLBEING FOR STUDENTS

I have fully dedicated myself to raising awareness of mental health of all students and made the wellbeing of all students a priority.

Mental health is a huge crisis which a majority of student are suffering from. There is not much awareness made for the mental health and wellbeing of students and a mass number of students are struggling with depression and/or anxiety.

Using Madinah Society as a platform, last year we had classes on Mental Health, with topics including, “How To Avoid Depression and Anxiety” and “How To Find Time and Be Motivated”, which was open to all students to support them.

I want to represent all students in huge discussions around mental health and wellbeing of students and ensure that policies are passed at the NUS National Conference to help creates a strong support network for all students who are struggling, and to ensure decisions are made to improve the mental health and wellbeing of all students here at Manchester Metropolitan University.

  1. BRINGING BACK THE MAINTENANCE GRANT

It is not only the sky-high tuition fees that is off-putting people from applying to university, but also the overpriced living costs.

The Maintenance Grant which had allowed students to be able to manage parts of their living costs finance, has now been removed.

The Maintenance Grant must be returned to allow students from all backgrounds to attend university and help manage their living costs in order for them to experience a better student life rather than stressing about falling into more debt with the maintenance loan just to survive.

WHY VOTE FOR ME?

It’s simple, you can’t just hope for a better student life; you have to vote for one!

Being elected as an NUS Delegate would allow me to represent the above points and much more on behalf of our Student Union at a national level during the NUS National Conference.

From being the Vice-President of Madinah Society in my second year of study, to the newly elected President in my final year, I believe my highly acquired leadership skills and determination for greatness is what you all need in someone to represent you at the NUS Conference.

Voting for me as your NUS Delegate would enable me to go and represent all of you, AND ensure your feedback and concerns are reached. If elected, I promise to stand firm for a strong, campaigning National Union for Students, to ensure you experience a better student life during your time here at Manchester Metropolitan University.

“I believe to be the RIGHT CHOICE, and at the NUS Conference; I will be YOUR VOICE
