Cheap events for Manchester Met students this month

Wednesday 18-01-2023 - 11:46

Welcome back! We hope you’ve all had an amazing winter break and are getting back into the swing of uni.

We know things aren’t cheap at the minute, and we’re keen to make sure you’re still getting the best out of your uni experience without money worries.

So, as well as the amazing work your Officers are doing to support with some cost of living resources, we’ve put together all the fun things you can do without breaking the bank.

Big Balls Bingo in The Unions Main Hall. A Dj on the stage with lots of students sat on long tables in front of him. Pink balloons and yellow banners hang from the ceiling

Future me week

From 23 – 27 January, the University is hosting Future me week, a series of events designed to help you develop your graduate employability skills.

There’re loads of things going on throughout the week including TED-style Talks, workshops, and degree specific challenges; to help you translate what you’ve learned during your course into real world situations.

The Union is also hosting loads of fun events to get involved with. We’ve got a roller disco, club nights, Bunker Talks and Folk Sessions at The Sal, walking tours and more. Get yourself over to the Futureme events page to see the full list.

Refreshers Fair

Refreshers Fair is back and is the perfect event to welcome you back to campus.

If you’ve ever attended one of our Freshers Fairs, you’ll know what to expect; and if you’ve not – don’t worry.

There’ll be loads more opportunities for you to grab some freebies from stalls like Domino’s, Camp America, Misspap and more.

Loads of our amazing Clubs and Societies will be there too with even more opportunities, so come say hi and get involved.

Big Balls Bingo

Possibly The Union’s biggest and most exciting event, and if you’ve never been – what’ve you been doing?

Big Balls Bingo has got big prizes to be won, and an even bigger atmosphere.

Ranging from air fryers to inflatables, cash to cereal – it’s all up for grabs.

When you sign up online, you’ll bag yourself a cheaper £2 ticket and bingo card, so what’re you waiting for?

Roller Disco

This one sells out every time, with our Main Hall being transformed into a skating spot for Manchester Met students.

Tickets to our Roller Disco are just £3 each, which gives you one full hour of skating and all equipment is provided (from the footwear to helmets and knee-pads if you need them).

You don't need to have any experience of roller skating before to attend and lots of people turn up to this event on their own, meaning it's a good chance to meet new people and there'll always be someone to help you up if you do hit the deck.

I Love Wednesday

Another iconic regular event at The Union.

I Love Wednesday is on every week (you guessed it, on a Wednesday), and has got our resident DJ Jordan Chardwell playing your favourite tunes and taking requests for those of you who’ve usually got control of the AUX in the car.

The event is free entry and there’s some cracking drinks offers, too. So, get yourself to The Union’s Main Hall from 21:00.

The Salutation

Our on-campus pub The Sal has got loads of free and cheap events going on, most of them regular events, too.

If you’re into Folk music (or just fancy a chilled vibe), get yourself over to The Sal for the Odd Tunes Folk Session from 20:00 onwards on 23 Jan. Entry is free and food and drinks will be served throughout the evening.

Fancy a free, educational evening? Bunker Talks are back at The Sal this month and talk #113 is with Agnieszka Piotrowska.

Agnieszka is an award winning, BBC trained filmmaker and theorist. With an impressive career and back story, anyone interested in the world of media would be mad to miss this.

Again, entry to this event is free, but you do need to sign up.

Last but not least, The Sal’s also got the regular Dungeons and Flagons event, as well as the weekly Speed Quzzing, too.

There’s loads to get involved in, so get ready for a great week.
