Free events for Manchester Met students this year

Friday 21-10-2022 - 14:53

We know things aren’t cheap at the minute and at The Union we’re doing everything we can to support you during this time. Whether it’s directing you to any additional funds that’re available or showcasing the Advice services we’ve got, we’re always exploring ways of making things easier for you.

As well as the above, this guide is to show you some fun events and sessions we’ve got on for you over the course of this year – all for free, of course.

Make sure you keep an eye on our Cost of Living Support page for further updates, too.

Give It A Go

Looking for something new and exciting to get involved in? Whether you’ve dabbled in it before, or it’s something completely new, Give It a Go is designed with students in mind, to encourage you to get out and find a new hobby.

Whether it’s a cross stitching workshop, planting session, or even a make your own clay session, you’re guaranteed to find something you’ll want to try at least once.

The programme is low cost and low commitment, meaning you can come once, come alone, or come to all of them and bring your mates. As always at The Union, there’s the opportunity to make new friends, too.

Check out our Give It a Go webpage for all planned events throughout the year.

Feel Good Friday

Feel Good Friday began last year and is a campaign designed to focus on important aspects of the student experience. Topics like education, creating conversations, making friends, along with other important issues were all covered in 2021’s events.

Feel Good Friday is intended to give students a safe space to explore all the above, as well as just a place anyone can come along, have a chat, and make some friends.

The first Feel Good Friday of 2022 is this month, which obviously means it’s Halloween themed.

Spooktacular is this Friday (28 October) all day at The Union. If you’re planning to come along, expect face painting, live performances, spooky arts and crafts and a costume walk by the K-Pop Society.

Check out The Union’s events listing to see all the Feel Good Friday events for the rest of the year.

Dungeons and Flagons

If you’ve been to any free events at The Union over the past year, you must’ve heard of Dungeons and Flagons.

One of our most popular events, Dungeons and Flagons aim to deliver a welcoming atmosphere, that allows you (both newcomers and experienced gamers) to get your hands on a massive library of over 300 board games.

Get yourself to the Main Hall every Tuesday from 19:00 onwards to get involved, and keep up to date with the events listings for the rest of the dates.

It’s free and fun – why wouldn’t you?

Manchester Met Active Campus

Manchester Met have got a cracking free sports timetable for anyone to go along and get involved.

Active Campus is (mostly) free and has very low commitment, so like Give It a Go, you can show up once, or you can go to all of them and take your mates with you.

A large majority of the sessions are free (swimming sessions cost £2.30), are spread out across various locations on campus, and range from boxing to dancing and yoga to badminton.

You don’t have to book each session, but it’s recommended you do to avoid missing out or being turned away on the day.

Get yourself over to the Active Campus timetable and see what you fancy.
