BAM is a project working across Manchester to support families affected by domestic abuse, substance misuse and mental ill health to become active together and improve wellbeing. The project is involves the whole family where there is at least one child who is 5-15 years old.
BAM brings families closer together using physical activity to strengthen relationships and increase confidence to access the local community happily and safely.
You will support the BAM team to deliver tailored activities to families, encouraging them to engage in fun, physical activities and well-being sessions. You will accompany and also take part in a variety of activity and well-being sessions with the whole family. Sessions may be outdoors or offered virtually during Covid-19, subject to local guidance.
Training will be two face-to-face days plus three additional sessions via zoom, covering topics including the BAM project and team, the needs of families, safeguarding, confidentiality, mental health, domestic abuse and substance misuse awareness. Ongoing support will be given throughout to ensure you get the most out of your volunteering experience.
All we ask from you is a commitment of 2-3 hours per week or fortnightly, you will need an enhanced DBS (which we will arrange), two references and to complete the application process successfully. BAM is a citywide project so sessions will be at different locations across Manchester, you will only be asked to volunteer in a location that is accessible to you.
