We are an entirely volunteer-run charity committed to providing annual respite breaks for disadvantaged children. Campus was founded in 1967, and has run summer projects every year since. We work with some of the most vulnerable children in the Liverpool-Merseyside area: children in care, some who have been abused, young carers, and children living in poverty or violent neighbourhoods. These children are referred to us by parents, social workers and other organisations because they desperately need a break from their home lives. For some, it is the one chance they get each year to be a child.
We run two types of summer projects: Residential and Hippocampus (non-residential). Residential project runs throughout the school summer holidays, based at a site in North Yorkshire. For many of our children this is only chance they have to escape the city. Hippocampus is our summer project for younger kids, from the age of 6, and those who would prefer to go on a non-residential project. Each week we take around 15 children although they don’t stay on site – we pick them up from home each morning and drop them off in the evening.
Campus Children's Holidays is looking for adults to volunteer on our summer projects! Volunteers will act as group leaders and look after a small group of children on 1 week of the summer project. During the day, volunteers will accompany the children on activities which include a trip to the beach, roller blading and a theme park! In the evening volunteers will be on site with the children, and look after them while they play on the bouncy castle and assault course, or relax in the crafts room. Campus is a great opportunity to not only have a huge amount of fun yourself but also develop skills working with children and as part of a team. While we ask volunteers to pay for their train tickets to our location, once there all accommodation and food is provided for for free during the week. We also need volunteers to drive our minibuses - you will need to be over the age of 21 and have had a full driving license for at least 2 years in order to drive the minibuses. Campus will pay for your training and there is also opportunity to practise-drive the minibuses before the start of Campus.
