In case you haven’t heard, the Manchester Christmas Markets are back! Check out our tips from our visit to the markets!

Manchester’s Christmas Markets are anything but your average market stalls — having been voted the best in the country more than once — this is a massive event, with over 300 stalls taking over the city centre.

Thousands of people flock to the city to see the markets every year, so if you fancy getting your hats and gloves on and going for a wander, follow this guide to get the most out of your visit.

Avoid visiting at the weekends (if you can)

With so much food, drink and festivities on offer, the markets attract hundreds of thousands of people each winter, meaning peak times – like evenings and weekends – can get pretty hectic.

One of the main perks of being a student, means your free time is all over the place, so why not take advantage of that and visit the markets during the week? You’ll have a much more relaxed time, get to visit all the stalls you want and most importantly, won’t have to queue as long.

Plan ahead if you want the best pictures

Did you really go to the Christmas markets if you didn’t get a picture?

There’s loads of great places to get the perfect snap, including in front of Manchester’s iconic giant Santa, on the balcony in the market’s largest pub or in front of almost any stall holding your hot drink (or pint).

Don’t stop at the first food stall you see

The markets are famous for its wealth of different food and drink, from sausages to sweets, and beer to hot chocolate.

We know it’s tempting to stop for a bratwurst as soon as you spot one, but seriously, take some time to look around – we guarantee you’ll enjoy something you’ve never tried before.

There’re also loads of vegetarian and vegan options too, so there’s something for all of you.

Explore the surrounding areas of the markets too

If you’re on a budget and being sensible with your cash (we all are these days), nothing’s stopping you from going to the markets for a wander round, then going off to a nearby pub for a pint or some food instead.

It can get pretty expensive in there, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go – the vibes at the markets are incredible and loads of people enjoy going just for a stroll.
