October is Black History Month.

It has been celebrated in the UK for 30 years, and is a time to recall black history, recognise and celebrate the people who fought and are still fighting for the rights of black communities, as well as celebrating blackness and black culture here and now.

Last year, we held a series of events to educate and inspire during October.  This year we look forward to hosting activities and events in The Union with the Race Staff Forum and African Caribbean Society, so look out for more information coming soon.

Keep an eye on our Student Officer’s Twitter accounts — they’ll be posting an inspirational person of their choice each day.

On Friday 20 October, there will be an exhbition in the Conference Suite. In Their Own Words: Exhibition About Black History And Resistance, will feature archival interviews and other slave narratives.

On Friday 27 October, the African Caribbean Society will host a Slam Poetry Evening, sharing a wealth of talent and giving insight into African Caribbean culture.
